The dielectric of polypropylene film capacitors is made of the thermoplastic, non-polar, organic and partially crystalline polymer material polypropylene (PP), trade name Treofan, belonging to the polyolefin family. They are manufactured as metallized wound and stacked versions, film/foil types. Polypropylene film is the most commonly used dielectric film in industrial and power capacitor types. The polypropylene film material absorbs less moisture than mylar and is therefore also suitable for "naked" gather designs without a fur coat. But the maximum temperature of 105 °C prevents the use of PP film in SMD packaging.
The temperature and frequency dependence of electrical parameters of polypropylene film capacitors is very low. Polypropylene film capacitors have a linear negative temperature coefficient of capacitance of ±2.5% over their temperature range. 1 Frequency determination circuit, filter, oscillator circuit, audio circuit and timer.
